In the last unit, you examined whether or not you had time to complete all the activities you envisioned for your lifestyle ( lifestyle means the way people choose to live their life, including where they live, how they dress, what work they do, what they do for entertainment, etc.), in this unit we will examine whether you have the money to live and do what you want.
When you first get your job, you imagine all the things you could potentially do and buy. However, at month's end, most young adults (and many older as well) find yourself without money? How could that possibly be now that you are working full-time. Well to ensure you have money each month you need to make a first create budget, (Budget: a detailed plan to help you manage resources, especially money or time.) and then reexamine the decisions you are making to make sure that it fits within your budget.
Tasks:
1. Add the following words to your list:
3. Write or type your answer to the following questions
1. Describe the future lifestyle you'd like to have.
(E.g., Where would you like to live? What kind of work you would like to do? What recreation and entertainment would you choose?)
2. List three things you learned by doing the Lifestyle Reality Check.

Many people complain about the lack of time. If only they had a few more hours in a day they could accomplish everything they want. Unfortunately, we only have the exact same number of minutes each day.
Today, you will estimate your hours of work, sleeping, eating, and playing -- does it work out or are you short hours?
Time is like money -- it needs to be budgeted for!

Job: a work role (paid or volunteer) with a specific organization in a specific place (e.g., Civil Engineer at ABC Construction, Volunteer Guide at Riverside Fish Hatchery, Math Teacher at Confederation High, or Cashier at Pleasantville Drug Store.
Occupation: a broad category of work with similar characteristics, such as Electrical Engineer, Commercial Pilot, Physician, Politician, Landscape Architect, or High School Teacher. Many people have the same occupation, but they work for different organizations, and have different jobs.
Career: A lifetime of learning how to balance learning, working, leisure, and relationships to be as happy and fulfilled as possible. Everyone has a career. Whatever age they are, they are well into their career. Some people just let their careers happen. Others take charge of their careers and construct the future they want.

A high five is a celebratory gesture made by two people, each raising one hand to slap the raised hand of the other — usually meant to communicate mutual satisfaction to spectators or to extend congratulations from one person to another. The arms are usually extended into the air to form the "high" part, and the five fingers of each hand meet, making the "five", thus the name. In addition to the standard high five, several variations exist in order to add uniqueness to the experience and to maximize satisfaction.
However,
in careers it has a much greater meaning.
Five Principles For Career Planning
The basic components of the career building a successful career plan:
Change is Constant
We change constantly and so does the world around us – including the working
world. Because a single occupation will no longer take us from the beginning to
the end of our working lives, adaptability is an important skill to carry into
the future.
Learning is Ongoing
Graduating from high school or college doesn’t mean that your education is
complete. Opportunities to learn are everywhere! Learn to recognize them and
make your learning a lifelong experience.
Focus on the Journey
Traveling through life is like traveling down a road: having a destination
gives direction, but most of the time is spent moving along. Pay attention to
the journey with all its pitfalls, sidetracks, opportunities, and highways to
new destinations.
Follow Your Heart
Dreaming about your future can help you understand what you really want in
life. Knowing what you want and keeping it in your mind can give you the
motivation you need to deal with life’s challenges. Never be afraid to dream.
Access Your Allies
The journey of life is not taken alone. Friends, family, teachers, neighbors –
any of them can be willing and helpful allies when it comes to judging what
steps to take in life’s path.
Those who follow these high five principles are more likely to prosper and secure fulfilling work and life roles in the knowledge economy.
